Socialisation and our dogs.
Weird ideas when it comes to socialising dogs. Let’s take the idea of taking a dog to a busy shopping area to socialise him/ her.
All of us – our dogs included – need to be surrounded with kindness and thoughtfulness, which means that asking our dogs to accompany us down busy shopping streets should be out.
A better experience would be to take your dog to far less crowded places, where he can feel more comfortable and is able to watch what is going on around him without the fear of being trodden on, being hit in the face with a random shopping bag or accosted by people or children who insist on stroking him.
None of this will help your dog to develop good social skills, and he is far more likely to become overstimulated and overwhelmed which often results in dogs jumping up at people or ducking away from them.
